Renault Duster Overview
First introduced in 2012, Renault Duster instantly became the honeybunch SUV in the country. In fact, the introduction of Renault Duster started off the compact SUV segment in the subcontinent. Renault ruled the space until its tough competitor Ford EcoSport entered the segment. So after completing its 4 years of lifespan and as the competition started heating up with the advent of Hyundai Creta, Renault introduced Duster facelift in 2016 to give it a new lease of life. Getting almost 32 styling and mechanical changes, Duster facelift was debuted at the Auto Expo 2016. Renault has recently showcased its next-generation Duster at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show. Renault Duster Design & Style
The Renault Duster comes with a 205 mm minimum ground clearance and measures 4,336 mm in length, 1,822 mm in width as well as 1,695 mm in height. The SUV has a fuel tank capacity of 50 litres on all variants. Higher variants in the Renault Duster is offered with 16 inch alloy wheels while the lower versions have steel rims with full wheel cover and trims all are equipped with tubeless radial tyres. All trims of the Renault Duster have body coloured bumpers, tinted glass, chrome front grille, roof rails and skid plates while the higher variants have silver coloured door handles and side sills.
Renault Duster Cabin & Comfort
Renault has given a fresh round of updates to the cabin in order to make it a lot more user-friendly. There are new black and chocolaty brown plastics all over along with more silver highlights and chrome detailing that has certainly spruced up the cabin. The center console has also been given a more gloss plastic treatment.
The controls for ORVMs which were under the handbrake have now been moved to a new practical position on the driver’s side. The new fabric seats with dual texture now offer a sense of richness and front pair getting an armrest for additional comfort. The coziness of the front and rear seats remain intact. The new Renault Duster gets the much needed automatic climate control feature along with new controls for AC.
The functionality of the MediaNav touchscreen infotainment has been enhanced with voice recognition feature for paired iPhones. The same touchscreen now gives visuals for rear parking camera. The enormous boot space of 475 litres is certainly a boon for those who are looking to take this vehicle on long tours. Other features in the car include cruise control, multi-information display, steering mounted controls, 8-way adjustable driver’s seat and multi-driving modes.
Renault Duster Engine & Transmission
The Renault Duster comes with a 1.6 litre petrol engine and a 1.5 litre diesel engine. The diesel engine comes in two states of tune in which it generates 84 hp of power at 3,750 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1,900 rpm while in the other state of tune, it produces 109 hp of power at 3,900 rpm and 248 Nm of torque at 2,250 rpm. The petrol engine makes 103 hp of power at 5,350 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 3,750 rpm. Both engines have been tuned for the best balance between performance and fuel efficiency.The Renault Duster comes with a six speed manual transmission for the diesel engine that has 109 hp of power while the petrol engine and the lower state of tune diesel engine is offered with a 5 speed gearbox. The SUV is also available in an AMT gearbox only for select diesel engine options.
Unlike some of the counterparts, Duster uses a modern monocoque shell construction for chassis which makes it light and efficient. The Duster SUV’s 85 PS diesel version offers the fuel efficiency of up to 19.87 Kmpl, while the 110 PS version offers a mileage of around 19.64 Kmpl. On the other hand, the petrol version of the SUV delivers the fuel efficiency of up to 13.05 Kmpl. While the Diesel variant (110PS) that comes equipped with an AWD (All Wheel Drive) transmission, promises to offer the most impressive fuel efficiency of 19.72kmpl.
Renault Duster Driving Dynamics
The power to weight ratio that the Duster offers is impressive and the engine has enough grunt to pull from any speed without straining. The gear ratios are wide and the engine has enough torque and you would not need to make frequent gear changes. At the front, the car uses Mac Pherson With Coil Spring, Stabiliser Bar & Double Acting Shock Absorber with Anti Roll Bar and at the rear, Multilink with Coil Spring & Double Acting Shock Absorber with Anti Roll Bar does its duty. Duster offers good performance on tough road conditions while also offering comfortable drive and handling on the busy city roads. The car has impressive high speed stability and feels stable at all speeds.
Renault Duster Braking & Safety
In terms of safety, the Renault Duster is offered with Anti lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), dual front airbags, speed sensing automatic door locks and hazard warning switch.The braking system installed in the car doesn’t disappoint at all. The bite force instills confidence in the driver. The AWD system itself has immense capabilities to take you through any terrains. The Renault Duster is an SUV offered by the French carmaker and comes in three diesel variants. The diesel engine is a 1.5 litre motor that is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, a 6 speed manual gearbox and an AMT gearbox.
