Maruti Suzuki Swift Overview
Replacing a blockbuster vehicle is always a hard balancing job for an automaker as drastic changes don’t always go in line with the devoted fan following. And sticking to the same formula can take the shine away from an established car. So, Maruti has just got it right, the carmaker introduced the third-generation model of Swift in the country. Maruti first introduced the hatchback back in the year 2005 followed by update in 2011, facelift in 2014 and now the third generation model in 2018. Check HDFC car loan at Fincarz.
The all-new car looks just tempting with all the things just placed right. The Maruti Swift undoubtedly looks stylish with better equipment level. It’s more efficient, more spacious and loaded with modern features and safety aspects. This time, company has provided a complete overhaul of the outer and inner design while the same engines will continue to do their duties.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Exteriors
The overall designing of the latest Maruti Suzuki Swift 2018 has been quite revolutionary in comparison to its previous versions. Though, it is still identifiable as the classic Swift series by Maruti Suzuki.
Being quite a contrast from its predecessor models, the new-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift 2018 has been designed on the lighter and contemporary Heartect platform. The car receives the new chassis which makes the given hatchback appear more rigid and stronger. The car also receives the attractive diamond-cut alloy wheels along with LED taillights for completing the overall aesthetic appeal.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Interiors
The changes to the interior of the Swift are equally telling. It might carry over some buttons and switches – like those for the power windows and the ORVM adjustment – from the older car, but it has a lot of fresh elements as well. The dashboard, the centre console, the seats, the climate control system, and the large touchscreen multimedia system (only on the top-of-the-line ZXI+ and ZDI+ trims) are all new for the Swift.
But, if you are getting a sense of déjà vu, that’s because the new Swift – which shares its base with the new Dzire – mirrors the latter’s interior design quite closely. Blame the economies of scale if you will, but even so, we really couldn’t find anything to criticize on the Swift’s insides either. Much like the Dzire. Feature wise, the new Swift has a decent mix. All trims come with ABS and airbags as standard. And the new Swift – like the Baleno and the Dzire that are based on the same platform – meets all necessary crash test norms, and then some.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Gearbox
The tried and tested duo; 1.2L petrol and the 1.3L DDiS diesel engines continue to serve the car. The 1.2L petrol mill churns out 82bhp and returns peak torque of 113Nm, while 1.3L diesel motor generates power output of 74bhp and yields the peak torque of 190Nm. Apart from the manual 5-speed transmission, the carmaker has addressed the long-standing demand of automatic transmission this time around with both diesel and petrol engines given the power of automatic. The refinement levels of the petrol engine are excellent and feel more alive and peppy at low speeds. As the diesel is shown to have more interest in kmpl rather than kmph, the performance at low speed is fair and adequate. The performance at high speed though is brilliant and the high-mileage consumer will certainly appreciate it.The lower kerb weight of the car puts less load on the engine, hence, greater fuel economy. The petrol variant of Swift returns ARAI certified mileage of 22kmpl, 8 percent more frugal than the earlier model. The diesel version, on the other hand, makes the car as the most fuel efficient in the country with the ARAI certified mileage of 28.4kmpl.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Driving
The petrol engine variant of the Maruti Suzuki Swift 2018 comes out to be a refined and well-tuned version in terms of delivering high-performance values for the overall riding experience. The booster engine capacities of the car make it an admirable performer. With the 1.2-Litre engine capacities, the Maruti Suzuki Swift 2018 appears to be quick and responsive with the given manual gearbox. As such, the car delivers satisfying performance and can be the perfect pick when it comes to 4 drivetrain iterations that could be expected by the buyers. Even after the lack of major changes in the engine specifications, the overall claimed efficiency and handling figures have improved.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Safety
The brakes of the car are on point and noticeably better than the earlier model. The car comes to halt in a straight line without any drama. And as opposed to the predecessor, the inclusion of ABS with EBD and Brake Assist as standard fitment helps the car have a better grip on the road. The safety is further leveled up by standard dual front airbags and ISOFIX child seats. Move on to the top variants and you get reverse parking camera with sensors, engine immobilizer, central locking and pinch guard power window.

Maruti Suzuki Swift Round Up
The first generation Swift in India was an excellent car for its time. It brought a different set of values to the mix which made us sit up and take notice. And yes, made the car the success it is today. The previous generation, or the second-generation car, sadly, wasn’t outstanding. As a product, and as a car, it was fine. But, it wasn’t good enough to blind you from buying anything else. This, the all-new Swift, however, is more like the original. It does the regular, basic stuff extremely well. And then, it also brings in the same set of lovely values – youthfulness, fun and desirability; courtesy its engine and handling mainly – that made the original a blockbuster.
