Renault Lodgy Overview

Renault better known as Dacia in the other European countries introduced the large MPV Lodgy to give a new taste of utility vehicle to the Indian customers. The car offers ample amount of space for a large family. In India, seven-eight seater vehicles are gaining momentum day by day. And considering the large joint family system in the country, the idea of large vehicle surely fits the bill. Renault is coming up with new products every time that strikes the chord with the Indian buyers. Renault Lodgy was launched back in the year 2015, followed by Stepaway range in 2017, sharing a handsome chunk of the sales chart. Based on the same platform as Duster, Renault Lodgy is considered as the more affordable people mover as compared to expensive Toyota Innova Crysta. Renault Lodgy Look

The Lodgy is based on a platform, which by now Indians are familiar with, namely the one shared by Logan and Duster. Both these cars have been robust and the same is expected from the Lodgy. To start with, size wise, the Lodgy falls between the Ertiga/Mobilio and the Innova. Infact the wheelbase at 2810mm is longer than that of the Toyota Innova, though the overall length of the car is lesser.

The Lodgy looks pleasant. Being an MPV, the boxy proportions are of course there but neatly managed. It has enough chrome on the grille, which also includes a prominent chrome plated Renault logo and on the bumper, it houses chrome plated fog lamp rings. The swept-back headlamps add to the looks of it and they also house DRLs (daylight running lamps) within. From the rear it looks pretty average, but some design accents camouflage the flat rear well, like the taillamps and the large chrome plated sill with ‘Lodgy’ branding. The Lodgy looks pretty long from the side. The rising window sill line breaks the monotony. The alloy wheels design compliments the overall look of the car. The door handles are same as the Duster.

Renault Lodgy Comfort

The interiors are similar to the regular variants of the Renault Lodgy and you get features like AC vents for all rows, a touch-screen infotainment system with inbuilt navigation (which works really well), reverse parking camera, 12V charging socket in all rows, and remote lock/unlock. The AC does a good job of cooling the rather large cabin while the audio system sounds decent. I felt the cubby holes and storage spaces at the front to be inadequate and struggled to find a place to keep my phone, wallet, etc. within easy reach. The seats are really comfortable even though I found them to be slightly on the stiffer side. The seats get good quality checkered covers. The Lodgy Stepway is offered in 7-seater as well as 8-seater versions. Since the driver’s seat is 8-way adjustable, I found my perfect driving position very quickly.

Renault Lodgy Gearbox

The car sources its power from the 1.5L 4-cylinder K9K diesel engine, the same which is working in the Duster. The carmaker has tuned the engine for two different power outputs; 85PS/200Nm torque and 110PS/245Nm. In terms of transmission, the low powered version is paired with 5-speed manual transmission, the higher one comes mated to 6-speed manual. To know more information on Renault Lodgy  visit Kokoliko

In terms of performance, the car doesn’t feel short on pulling the power. The initial throttle response is excellent and on the open roads, the car truly shines.Despite being a large MPV, the car doesn’t compromise on fuel efficiency. The Duster borrowed diesel engine does a terrific job and the owners won’t find any reason to complain. Where the 85PS version of Renault Lodgy is able to deliver ARAI certified fuel economy of 24kmpl, the more powerful 110PS version returns 20kmpl.

Renault Lodgy Driving

After a quick stopover for some photos, we headed towards the Bandra-Worli Sea Link where we got to experience the Lodgy Stepway at speeds up to 80 km/hr (speed limit!!). Must say, the engine is really well tuned and Renault has done a good job of reducing the effect of the turbo lag. The oil-burner feels punchy 2000 RPM onwards and there is grunt till 4000 RPM. I can easily say that the Lodgy can effortlessly munch miles for hours without any fuss. I’m sure you want to know the fuel efficiency, which is a claimed figure of 19.98 km/l, and ideally, should give you 13-14 km/l under mixed driving conditions.

The tyres have decent grip for regular usage and you won’t have a reason to complain unless you would want to push your car across every corner you see. The suspension is extremely well tuned and hence the ride is fantastic. Even the handling characteristics are good by MPV standards. In fact, the Lodgy is one of those few MPVs which doesn’t drive like one. The brakes are again pretty decent and there shouldn’t be a reason to complain on that front as well.

Renault Lodgy Safety

The braking system of Renault Lodgy has an adequate bite and with ABS at play, the stopping capability is further enhanced. Other features in the safety kit include dual front airbags, EBD, Brake Assist, central locking, engine immobilizer, door ajar, warning, auto door lock, rear defogger and seat belt reminder.

Renault Lodgy Final Thought

To sum up, the Lodgy has many a positives going for it. It looks good for an MPV, has enough space that is desired by MPV buyers, is feature laden, offers a great ride, comfort and has a strong build. It is a sensible upgrade for people who want more space than their premium hatchbacks / mid-size sedans, without compromising on performance, comfort and features. It also comes across as a good car for inter-city travel or long weekend drives for families. If you are looking for a family commuter, the Lodgy will prove to be a very good one.
